The Ornate Box Turtle (Terrapene ornata ornata) is a striking species native to the central United States, easily recognized by the intricate, yellow-lined patterns on its dark brown shell. Unlike other box turtles that prefer more forested or wet environments, the Ornate Box Turtle is primarily found in open grasslands and prairies, which makes it quite unique among its relatives.
