Burmese Pythons are large non-venomous snakes that are sexually dimorphic. Females are generally longer and thicker than males. They are strictly carnivores and tend to find meals with large mammals. But they do not discriminate if they have an opportunity with birds, or smaller animals. Burmese have been invasive across South Florida. There is a large number of pythons that can be found in the Florida Everglades. They have decreased population numbers for a lot of native species in Florida, including their top predators. This includes; bobcats, coyotes, alligators, raccoons, opossums, white-tailed deer, foxes, rabbits, panthers, as well as various bird species. It is very important to practice safe handling methods with any larger constrictor. Make sure you can provide these pythons with the spaces they need for life (~30 years). It’s recommended going above minimum requirements for enclosures, these snakes are large bodied, and they will move if given the space.
