Ackie Monitors, also known as Spiny-tailed Monitors, are a species of small monitor lizards native to the arid regions of Australia. Scientifically termed Varanus acanthurus, they are particularly noted for their robust and spiky tails, which they use defensively by curling into a ball and presenting the spines to potential predators.
